Our Rhythm

Days at Gumboots are guided by a familiar rhythm encompassing play, meals, and time together.

Children are encouraged to take an active role in our daily rhythm, including preparing for meal time, leading karakia, and taking part in storytelling, games, and waiata at the end of the day.

8:00am - 8:30am
Extended hours morning time.
Child-initiated, teacher-supported play. 

8:30am - 9:30am
Child-initiated, teacher-supported play, inside and outside.

9:30am - 10:00am
Morning tea. Children wash hands and eat one or two items from their lunchboxes.

10:00am - 12:00pm
Child-initiated, teacher-supported play, inside and outside.

12:00pm
Children are called in to wash their hands and to share a karakia (blessing) before lunch.

12:00pm - 12:30pm
Lunch time and quiet time inside as everyone finishes eating.

12:30pm - 2:00pm
Child-initiated, teacher-supported play, inside and outside.

2:00pm
Gradual tidy up begins.

2:30pm - 2:45pm
Afternoon tea. Often prepared by Gumboots children.

2:45pm - 3:00pm
Circle Time.
Children come together at the end of the day awaiting the arrival of parents, whānau and caregivers.

3:00pm - 4:00pm
Extended hours afternoon time.
Child-initiated, teacher-supported play.
